I Surrendered

I Surrendered

I do not mean hands up, I give up, I surrender, or do I?  I think surrendering is an intricate part of getting out of life what you ask for.  I find it so interesting most of us surrender, though we do not realize it or understand it.

There are three short stories below to clarify my point because there are times when often a story is better than an explanation.

Story one:

Many times over the years I have mislaid my keys or my favorite writing pen.

I look for hours and cannot locate them.  Soon, I become frustrated and give up.  I say, they will come back to me.  I move on with my daily life and the keys or writing instrument, show up. I surrendered!

Story two:

Over thirty four years ago, I walked into Blue Ridge Alcoholic Rehabilitation Center for the weekend.  My intention was to figure out why, as hard as I tried, I could not stop drinking alcohol.  I ended staying for thirty days.

Within two days I began having withdrawal symptoms.  I was weeping and shaking uncontrollably. I was given medication, and it helped a bit.  I was in so much distress and not in a position to do anything for myself. I surrendered.

My words/thoughts were, I cannot do this alone, I have tried, I give in. I surrender, and I need help. Please, God, help me.   I felt like one hundred years had passed in an instant, the pain in my heart was gone. I knew I was going to be ok.

I stepped into the unknown during that painful time, I had faith and trust and I found peace.  I have not had a drink in over thirty-four years.

“Surrender is the faith that the power of Love can accomplish anything
even when you cannot foresee the outcome.”
~ Deepak Chopra

Writing this article has been so rewarding for me because I am reminded not to worry, to ask for what I want knowing it will come to me in unexpected ways.

Some folks find it very difficult to yield because it means having faith.  Faith and trust in the unknown, not knowing how what you are asking for will come.  Faith in something you cannot see however, you can surely feel it.

Story three:

When I decided to move to Seattle a few years ago, I tasked my daughter with finding a home for the three of us.  We wanted three bedrooms, living room, kitchen, dining room, two car garage, two bathrooms, a fireplace, a garden, on the bus line and walkable to shopping and dining.

Ronda, my daughter, thought I was out of my mind, and her realtor could not believe what I was asking for with our budget.   They looked for two-three weeks and saw homes that were in need of repair and not in the area I wanted.

My thoughts were the house I want is waiting for me.  I knew it.  I asked for it and I released it.  A few days later, they took a chance and looked at a foreclosure.  Ronda did not think much of it because of the listing.

When she walked in, she knew she was home.  Everything we wanted and more was in that house.  Ronda called me and said, “I found our home.”   She and her realtor wrote a contract within 30 minutes of walking in the door.

We closed less than 30 days later.  Ronda believes we had divine intervention in getting our home.  I smile every time she says that.

These stories happened to me.  I am sure you have examples of surrendering and getting what you want as well.  Think about them!

Why do we not yield more?  Why do we ask for what we want and not receive it?  We give it up, we tack it back, we worry, we manipulate the situation and we wonder, when, will I get what I want!
